Facts about Bothell
Found in both Snohomish and King counties, Bothell is considered part of the Seattle Metropolitan Area. As of the latest census, the city has a population of just over 48,000 people. Bothell is toward the northeast end of Lake Washington, providing residents with a beautiful view.
The first European claims on the area occurred in 1870. Over the next six to seven years, eight families chose to settle in the area. By 1876, commercial logging was underway. This led to the establishment of a store, a school, and a sawmill.
The town was formally platted in 1888, shortly after the establishment of a post office. The arrival of the railroad within months of the platting paved the way for additional growth, as well as the ability to transport coal and timber to other areas. By the early 1920s, dredging and more control over the water levels coupled with the building of roads led to a shift in using more ground transportation.
Bothell began to be seen more as a suburb after World War II, with a number of people choosing to live there while commuting to Seattle for work. Annexing attempts, some of which were successful, helped the town to grow at a faster rate.
